THE Penafiel won today against last-placed Feirense, 1-0, and rose to second place in the II Football League, in the direct promotion zone, in the closing game of the ninth round.
The goal that decided the match was scored by João Pinto, in the 54th minute, confirming the red-blacks’ superiority in the game.
Feirense started out withdrawn and only in the second half managed to create dangerous situations near Miguel Oliveira’s goal, decisive in defending the victory in two moments, the last one already in added time.
The locals had more ball and showed greater quality of play, but ended up suffering unnecessarily. Diego Altube also contributed to keeping the ‘fogaceiros’ in the discussion of the result, especially by preventing Penafiel’s second goal, in the 84th minute, following a shot by Duarte Oliveira, who appeared isolated in the area.
With this triumph, Penafiel rose to second place, with 19 points, the same as Lusitânia de Lourosa, third placed, both remaining in the direct promotion zone, since leader Sporting B, with 21, cannot move up a division.
Feirense, in turn, remains in last place, without any victory in the championship and with just two points.
Game at the Municipal Stadium, April 25th, in Penafiel.
