THE Benfica surprised its fans at the start of this Monday’s match, against Alverca, by using a new kit commemorating the match on March 4, 1981, against Fortuna Dusseldorf, for the Cup Winners’ Cup.
“The initiative between Benfica and adidas marks an important chapter in the connection between the two brands. The original 1980/81 kit was the Club’s first to feature the iconic adidas Trefoil, an element that distinguishes it in the history of the partnership”, begins by writing the red emblem.
“The historical connection finds a concrete reference in the meeting between Fortuna Düsseldorf and Benfica, played on March 4, 1981, for the Cup Winners’ Cup, in which the eagles used the now recovered equipment”, he adds.
