Estoril points out to FC Porto: “We have to have discipline and there are no excuses”

Date:

“TWe need to gain confidence with each game and we will only do that with daily work. I feel the players responding well and now it’s up to us to transform this week’s work into results”, said the coach, at the press conference previewing the match against the defending national champions.

Without hiding the difficulties that Amoreira is experiencing, the 42-year-old coach guarantees that “the group is united”.

“It’s the last against the first. It’s reality, it’s the starting point, but it’s not the finishing point. We have a united group, no one wants to be in this situation, but we don’t run away from what it is. We have to have discipline and there are no excuses. We’ll only improve with work and actions on the field. The competition starts on each day of training and we want to find consistency in the way we act”, said the former coach of the ‘canarinha’ under-23 team.

As for FC Porto, Sérgio Raimundo highlighted the defensive quality of the team led by Francesco Farioli.

“It’s an opponent that has never lost, concedes few goals and has enormous quality. We don’t expect anything easy. We want to be competitive and that means finding solutions against any opponent. In a game of this size, some strategic nuances can be important and, if the players believe and go all the way, we can have a strong impact on the game”, guaranteed the coach.

Regarding his future at the helm of Estoril, after having succeeded Vasco Matos, he is only focused on the next game.

“I only think about today. The weekly results will dictate. When we take on this position, we know that we don’t have a longevity of 10 years. We are a big family and the house wants things to happen in a positive way. Nobody is happy about being in last place, but we will work because in each game there is a way to win. I want a fearless, united team that fights until the last second of the game”, concluded Sérgio Raimundo.

Estoril Praia, 18th placed, with two points, visits FC Porto, first placed, with a total of 27, on Saturday, at Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, from 8:30 pm, in a game that will be refereed by Miguel Nogueira, from the Lisbon association.
