UA solitary goal from Malik Abubakari, in the ninth minute, allowed Torreense to beat Amarante today, 1-0, and leave the maintenance play-off zone of the II Portuguese Football League.
With this result in the match that ended the eighth round of the championship, played at the Manuel Marques Stadium, in Torres Vedras, the ‘gray blue’ rose to 13th place, with nine points, four more than Amarante, which remains in 17th and penultimate position and, therefore, in the direct relegation zone.
In a lively game, and with an interesting initial rhythm, it was the Torres Vedras team that decided the match after just nine minutes: the Ghanaian Abubakari took advantage of a bad delay from Diogo Costa and only had to pass Didi before finishing successfully.
The goal conceded in the opening minutes led Renato Coimbra’s team to take more risks in search of a draw, with LuÃs Tralhão’s team responding with a counterattack. Both teams, moreover, were unsuccessful, with emphasis on the goalkeepers, who would prevent more goals in the game with highly demanding defenses.
With this outcome, Torreense puts an end to a cycle of three consecutive defeats, of which two in the Europa League, and returns to triumphs in the championship after a defeat and a draw.
Amarante recorded its second consecutive defeat in the championship, in which it has not won for almost two months.
