THE Luciano Spalletti’s immediate future is one of the current topics in Italy, due to Juventus’ start to the 2026/27 sports season below expectations, which resulted in a record of five wins, two draws and as many defeats after nine official games, in all competitions.
According to this Tuesday’s edition of the newspaper La Repubblica, for now, the Bianconera management’s intention is to maintain confidence in the 67-year-old coach, with whom he renewed his contract, a few months ago, until June 2028. However, the crisis in sporting results has already led to the drafting of an emergency plan.
In this sense, adds the same publication, there are already two names on the table. They are Francesco Farioli and Simone Inzaghinames that have been monitored more closely by the Vecchia Signora structure, with a view to a possible onslaught next summer.
Francesco Farioli, remember, extended his contract with FC Porto last January, until June 2028, at a time when he was already starting to be appointed to some of the biggest clubs in European football, including Chelsea (which would end up betting on Xabi Alonso, following the departure of Liam Rosenior).
Simone Inzaghi, for his part, left Internazionale for Al Hilal just over a year ago, committing himself to the Saudi Arabian formation until the end of this season, which means that, at least, in theory, he would be an easier target for the historic Transalpine formation.
Antonio Contewho left Napoli’s helm at the end of the last campaign, is free and has been ‘requested’ with particular insistence by the fans, not least because he knows the club well, having guided it between 2011 and 2014. However, at least for now, he is seen as a remote option.
After all, how bad is Juventus’ situation?
The tone of protest around Luciano Spalletti has increased, particularly since last weekend, during the heavy defeat suffered against Lazio, by 0-3, in which Portuguese international Nuno Tavares was in the spotlight, assisting Gustav Isaksen’s goal.
A result that ‘shot’ Francisco Conceição and company’s team to eighth place in Serie A, with 11 points achieved after seven rounds, eight less than the leading pair composed of Internazionale and Lazio, and two less than Frosinone, who occupies sixth place, the last one to access international competitions.
Much less delicate is Vecchia Signora’s situation in the Europa League, after the triumphs over NEC (5-0) and Celta Vigo (1-2), which gave them six points and a place in the league stage leaders, along with Bayer Leverkusen, Benfica, Besiktas, Bournemouth, Omonia, Ferencváros, Olympique Lyon, Sunderland and Olympiacos.
