THE Académica secured their place in the fourth round of the Portuguese Cup today, by beating Amarante 3-2, turning the score around in the match between two teams from the II Football League.
At the Cidade de Coimbra Stadium, the goals were scored by Simão Silva (11 and 53 minutes), Gonçalo Cunha (25), in own goal, Afonso Rodrigues (57) and Hugo Nunes (66).
Against the run of play, Amarante opened the scoring, through Simão Silva, with a rebound from a shot by Arome, which the ‘briosa’ goalkeeper saved forward.
The goal was a real disappointment for the Coimbra team, who started the match with a lot of pressure and played practically installed in the opponent’s field in the first 10 minutes.
Equality came after 25 minutes, with an own goal from Gonçalo Cunha, who headed into his own goal, following a throw-in.
A double from Simão Silva in the 53rd minute, with a low shot from the edge of the area, put the northern team ahead again.
The advantage lasted just four minutes, with equality being restored by Afonso Rodrigues, with a crossed shot.
In the 66th minute, Hugo Nunes, who entered at the beginning of the second half, completed the ‘students’ comeback and fixed the result, despite strong pressure from Amarante until the end of the match.
