THE Vitória de Guimarães, from the I Football League, today guaranteed passage to the fourth round of the Portuguese Cup by defeating Lamelas, from the fifth tier, 1-0, in a match played at the Castro Daire Sports Complex.
After a well-fought first half, in which Lamelas was reduced to 10 players, Miguel Maga managed to overcome goalkeeper Dani Dias and score the only goal of the match in the 79th minute, ensuring the Victorians continued in the competition.
The tie, played at home on loan to Lamelas, a club in the Division of Honor of the Viseu Football Association, started at a slow pace, with little offensive production from both teams.
Despite Vitória having more space and possession of the ball, they found it difficult to play behind the Lamelense defense, committed to reducing the visitors’ chances of passing, who had four great opportunities, masterfully blocked by goalkeeper Dani Dias.
The Minho team ended up dominating the last 10 minutes of the first half, when Lamelas were outnumbered, after Ruizinho was sent off due to the accumulation of yellow cards.
The second half started with a judicious shot by Alanzinho after a free kick in favor of Vitória, blocked by Dani Dias, followed by a ‘shot’ from Lamelense captain Paulo André’s midfield, which forced Lucas Furtado into a two-stroke save.
In the 65th minute, Vitória’s goalkeeper, who made his debut for the Minho team, once again ‘flyed’ to save a header from Edgar Lopes, while Dani Dias was once again in the spotlight by denying ‘sung goals’ to Mitrovic and Camara.
At 78, after the Lamelense goalkeeper defended a first attempt by Camara, the ball fell to Maga who filled the ball and opened the scoring at the Castro Daire Sports Complex.
In the final stretch of the match, while Lamelas tried to contain the opponent’s transitions, the Guimarães tried to increase their advantage, but without success.
With this victory, Vitória de Guimarães guaranteed passage to the fourth round of the Portuguese Cup, while Lamelas is out of the competition.
