Tiago Margarido: “We have to set an example from here of what we should be”

Date:

What changed from the first part to the second? “I want to start by offering my condolences to the family of our former president Emílio Macedo da Silva on part of the working group. Regarding the game, there were two completely different parts. In the first, Sporting were clearly superior, in the second, Vitória were clearly superior. Sporting came in very strong, something we already expected. However, we were not aggressive, compact or strong in the duels, and this resulted in three goals for the opponent. With the changes we made, we changed the attitude. The players came in with the right attitude, and it’s the second half that we want for Vitória. It was the attitude, the dedication, the pressure, the desire to win and the ability to play, with a completely wide team and projected in the offensive moment.

Moral victory? “We have to think about the next game and learn that we can’t have first halves like this. We have to think about the game with Nacional. We’re in charge at home and we have to have an attitude in the second half. Our fans, even though we lost 3-0, didn’t stop supporting us. We wanted points, but in the second half we played we were able to repay a little bit of that support.”

Three substitutions at half-time: “It was a question of attitude. The players who came in did so with the right attitude.”
