THE Sporting de Braga hosts Gent today, at 8pm, in the second round of the league phase of the Football Conference League, in coach Franclim Carvalho’s debut game and in which he seeks to collect the first points.
The new coach took over from Spaniard Carlos Vicens after the home defeat on Monday against Gil Vicente (2-1), in a delayed game of the second round of the Portuguese League, which kept the ‘arsenalistas’ in eighth place, with 11 points, 13 behind leader FC Porto.
After the 3-0 away defeat to Copenhagen, Sporting de Braga is looking to gain the first points in the competition against the leader of the Belgian championship, who in the opening round of the Conference League beat Aarhus, from Denmark, 1-0 at home.
Gent remains in 13th place in the league table of the third UEFA competition, joining the group of clubs with three points, while Sporting de Braga occupies 35th and penultimate place, among the 14 teams that did not score in the first round.
The top eight classified in the league phase will qualify directly for the round of 16, while the teams classified between ninth and 24th place will compete in a play-off to access the next phase, with the rest being eliminated.
