Russo shines for Arsenal and defeats Benfica in the Champions League

Date:

THE Benfica suffered its second defeat today in the league stage of the women’s Champions League, losing 3-0 to Arsenal in London in the third round.

A hat-trick by Alessia Russo, in the 39th, 66th and 79th minutes, the last a penalty, dictated the defeat of the ‘reds, who thus added the second consecutive defeat in the competition, after having lost in the previous round against the Germans of Bayern Munich, also by 3-0.

The defeat leaves the ‘Eagles’ in 11th place, with three points, resulting from their 2-1 victory at the home of Italian Juventus in the first round, a position that still gives them access to the play-off for access to the quarter-finals, while Arsenal moves up to second, with the same seven points as leader Lyon, but the French have a better goal difference.

In the next round, Benfica will host, on November 11th, the Austrian side Austria Vienna, who currently occupy 14th place, with one point, but who will still host Juventus on Thursday.
