Pepa and Sporting: “It could have gone wrong, but it didn’t”

Date:

“Fwe fall within ourselves. We know that we will draw, lose and win, but we stick to our process and idea with great courage and, I believe, anything is possible”, said the coach at the launch of the trip to Alverca, on Saturday, at 3:30 pm, counting for the second round of the championship.

Pepa, who is in his first season as coach of Estrela da Amadora, was satisfied with the first signs left by the team since work began, highlighting the low average age in the squad, which will be joined by more experienced elements until the market closes.

“Of course, I don’t hide the fact that it is necessary to have some players with experience, who also help the kids, passing on that maturity and the matrix”, he acknowledged.

The 45-year-old coach found the performance achieved in the first official game, the draw against runners-up Sporting (2-2), a promising sign, a result that he admitted may have surprised the average fan.

“Normally, they look a lot at Benfica, FC Porto, Sporting and, when results happen in which these three teams don’t win, it’s always something new or something that draws attention”, he commented.

Furthermore, Pepa highlighted the behavior shown by his team on the opening day, when they overturned the two-goal deficit against the ‘lions’.

“It could have gone downhill, but it didn’t go downhill, not in terms of physical, emotional, or concentration. Nothing”, he highlighted, hoping to present a similar or even better record against Alverca, in order to guarantee the first official victory of the season.

Estrela da Amadora will face Alverca on Saturday, starting at 3:30 pm, at the FC Alverca Stadium, refereed by José Bessa (AF Porto).
