Jorge Silas is the new coach of AVS, succeeding Sérgio Fonseca, and has signed a contract valid until the end of the season, the team from the Portuguese Second Football League announced today.
“It was easy to accept the invitation, since I knew the team well, like all of the II League, and it fits within the projects that we found attractive”, explained Silas, quoted by the club in a note published on the official website.
After debuting as head coach at Belenenses, the 48-year-old coach has already been in charge of Sporting, Famalicão, AEL Limassol (Cyprus), Mafra, Marítimo, União de Leiria and Farense.
“I try for my teams to impose themselves in the game naturally through possession and to try to recover the ball quickly when they don’t have it. It’s not always possible, of course, but we will always play to win,” he said.
The new AVS coach also highlighted the youth of the squad, but reinforced that “it is important to have some experience to support youth”.
“The desire to improve in each training session and reach every game to win is very important,” he concluded.
Silas makes his debut as coach of AVS, 12th in the II League, with nine points, on Sunday with the reception to Tondela, in the eighth round.
