THE Benfica formalized, this Tuesday morning, the transfer of Amar Dedic to Newcastle in exchange for 35.9 million euros.
In a statement sent to the Securities Market Commission, the incarnated SAD also revealed that it retained 17.94% of a future capital gain in a new transfer involving the Bosnian full-back.
Benfica also informed CMVM 5% that Newcastle will retain the solidarity mechanism, intended for training clubs, while Clube da Luz will pay a 10% intermediation commission on the value of the transfer, discounting the aforementioned mechanism.
Note, also, that part of this amount of 35.9 million euros will be allocated to RB Salzburg, the club to which Dedic was recruited last summer.
“Salzburg receives 15% of the added value of the deal, after deducting Dedic’s acquisition value and the 5% solidarity”, can be read in the official note from Benfica’s SAD.
Amar Dedic, 23 years old, leaves Benfica with a total of 46 games played, in which he scored one goal and four assists. He was currently behind Alexander Bah in Marco Silva’s options for the right-back position in defense, but also because he was at the 2026 World Cup, playing for Bosnia and Herzegovina, having played three games.
Dedic already speaks to Newcastle
A year after arriving at Luz, Dedic made the leap to the Premier League through Newcastle, signing a five-year contract (valid until 2031) and reuniting with a coach, Matthias Jaissle, with whom he had already worked on two occasions in the past (Liefering and RB Salzburgo).
“It’s a special feeling and a huge honor for me to join Newcastle United. I’m very happy to be here and I can’t wait to start playing for the club and the fantastic fans”, Dedic began by saying, speaking to the Magpies’ official channels.
“Returning to work with Matthias was an important factor for me. We know each other well, he knows what I can offer on the pitch and I’m very happy to play under his orders again. Playing in the Premier League, at St. James’ Park, will be very special. Every game is experienced as a great occasion, with a fantastic atmosphere. I’m very excited to get started”, said the Bosnian international.

Matthias Jaissle also did not hide his satisfaction at being able to count on Dedic again, highlighting his experience at “big clubs”.
“I’m very happy to have Amar in our squad. He’s a player I know very well, since I worked with him as a young player in Austria, and who I’ve followed throughout my career. He’ll bring qualities both defensively and offensively to our team, which fits the style of football we want to play. He’s an athletic, aggressive and technically very good player, but he also has a lot of potential to evolve”, he highlighted.
“Amar is still young, but he already has a lot of important experience: he played in the Champions League and the World Cup, as well as having represented big clubs in Austria, France and Portugal. I’m really looking forward to working with him again”, concluded the new Newcastle coach, who recently arrived in England to succeed Eddie Howe.
