Moreirense had Estrela to win with the last breath

Date:

THE The tenth round of the I League continues to give fans emotions and this Saturday was no exception. Moreirense hosted the Estrela da Amadora team at Parque Joaquim de Almeida Freitas, in Moreira de Cónegos, under refereeing led by João Pinheiro, in a match that brought favor to the home club, with a 2-1 victory achieved in added time.

Vasco Botelho da Costa’s team was coming off a comfortable victory against Estoril Praia, away from home, while Pepa’s team felt no other taste than defeat three games ago in the national championship.

Still, there was mutual respect throughout the match, especially in the first half of the match, where there were no dangerous opportunities in the opening 45 minutes, despite some ‘lack’ shots from both teams.

However, the halftime talks ended up being successful, as seven minutes dictated the final result. In the 50th minute, Moreirense opened the scoring, after a play invented by Manuel Mendonça, a player trained at Sporting, who assisted Landerson for the first goal of the match, in what was his debut to score this season.

However, the margin was canceled in the 57th minute, after Estrela da Amadora equalized through Croatian midfielder Lovro Zovnarek, who was not asked to shoot and restore equality to the Reboleira team, on their visit to Minho in mainland Portugal.

After assisting the goal that broke the ice in the city of Guimarães, Manuel Mendonça ended up having to leave due to injury, creating complications for Moreirense.

The final stretch of the match was the one with the most chances in front of goal, with the stars having more chances to reach the winning goal, even though neither team had a truly glaring opportunity to make the opposing nets shake for the final celebration in Moreira de Cónegos, before the seven minutes of added time given by referee João Pinheiro.

It was at that time that a savior called Nile John appeared, who scored the winning goal in the 90+5 minute, putting Vasco Botelho da Costa on the bench in euphoria.

With this result, Moreirense rose, albeit in condition, to eighth place in the league table, with 14 points added in 10 matches played, while Estrela da Amadora was unable to overtake Famalicão in 11th place in the standings, remaining with the same 10 points added so far.

The Minho team will now visit the Estádio de Alvalade, to face Sporting, on the 7th of November, while the Reboleira team will receive, at the José Gomes Stadium, the Benfica team, the day after the opponent’s duel this afternoon.
