Luís Tralhão opens the book on leaving Torreense: “I leave with sadness…”

Date:

Luís Tralhão broke his silence this Monday after the unexpected departure of Torreense’s technical command, by writing a farewell message on his social media.

“My connection to Sport Clube União Torreense has come to an end. I leave with sadness for the unexpected way this stage ends, but with enormous gratitude for everything I experienced and built together”, the Portuguese coach began by writing in a post on Instagram.

“I take with me, above all, the pride of having written one of the most beautiful pages in the history of this club and Portuguese football. Winning the Portuguese Cup, by a team from the Second League, was an unprecedented feat, one that remains forever in the memory of those who lived through it and in the history of an institution”, he continued.

“We will also remember the Super Cup dispute, the first ever victory in the Europa League and the conquest of the Revelation League. We managed to reach third place in the championship, but unfortunately in the playoff we did not achieve promotion to the I League”, explained Luís Tralhão.

The 48-year-old coach opened his heart to remember the trajectory he led in the West of Continental Portugal emblem, speaking of “legacy” in Torres Vedras.

“My (our) time at the club will forever be marked by the achievements achieved, but it is not limited to numbers and facts. The legacy that makes me most proud is the impact and the connection we were able to make with people. With the players, with the staff, with the management and with the fans”, he pointed out.

“I want, above all, to leave a word of deep gratitude. To the players, who were the true protagonists of this journey and with whom I had the privilege of sharing unforgettable moments”, he reflected.

“To my technical team, for their competence, loyalty and dedication. To the directors, collaborators and everyone who, in different ways, contributed to the work we developed”, said Luís Tralhão, who then said goodbye to the Torreense fans.

“To the Torreense fans and the people of Torres Vedras, who welcomed me, supported me and made me feel what it means to represent this club, this city and the region. The affection I received will always stay with me. Thank you for everything!”, he concluded.

João Nuno was chosen to succeed Tralhão at Torreense

Coach João Nuno was chosen to succeed Luís Tralhão as coach of Torreense. “This begins a new chapter in the Torreense process, with the firm purpose of solidifying its growth”, highlighted the West club, in a statement issued a few hours after the previous coach’s departure was made official.

After spells in the main teams of Estrela da Amadora, Belenenses, 1.º Outubro and Fabril, the new ‘man at the helm’, aged 41, arrives at the leadership of the Torrienses after the departure of Luís Tralhão, who led the ‘gray blue’ to the unprecedented victory of the Portuguese Cup and consequent direct qualification to the league phase of the Europa League.

Tralhão had arrived at Torres Vedras in 2024/25, taking over the main team in January of this year, after the departure of Vítor Martins.

In six months, he guided the team to the promotion play-off to the top flight, which they failed against Casa Pia, and to winning the ‘queen’ competition, this time against Sporting, 2-1, after extra time, which was also worth the unprecedented European qualification.

However, the troubled start to the season led Torreense’s SAD to opt for a change of coach, betting on João Nuno for the succession.
