Dedic leaves for England and leaves a message to Benfica fans

Date:

THEMar Dedic left this Sunday afternoon for England, where he will undergo medical examinations in the next few hours before signing a contract with Newcastle, a club that will pay 35 million euros to Benfica.

Upon arrival at Tires aerodrome, the still Eagles player did not want to speak to journalists, but ended up leaving a short message when asked by fans: “I love them”.

A few hours after Marco Silva confirmed, in a press conference, that the Bosnian full-back’s departure was close to materializing, failing the duel with Casa Pia, scheduled for tomorrow, Monday, Dedic thus left Portugal and is increasingly closer to making the leap to the Premier League.

“Not being anything official, I can say, at this moment, he will be out of the game, unlike what happened with Hearts. There was no reason for that to happen… Until I had any feedback from the Benfica structure, all players count for the games. Hence, there was no doubt that Dedic would be involved in the game. When I spoke to you it was in that sense. He is out of the squad and has not been involved in the preparation for the game. The feedback from the management is that he is at an advanced stage”, Marco Silva began by saying, assuring that he would like to stick to the side

“He was a player that we, Benfica, didn’t want to lose, especially due to the good season he had last year and his youth. We want to sign players, but we can also lose players. We have two options: Bah and Banjaqui. I don’t want to divert Aursnes to other positions. Dedic is out. It’s ongoing, closer to happening than not happening”, concluded the Benfica coach.

Millions worth reunion

Despite appearing to be behind Alexander Bah in the fight for a place on the right side of Benfica’s starting defensive line, Amar Dedic still represents an important financial asset for Benfica.

The most recent reports point to a deal that will yield up to a total of 35 million euros, with the possibility that five of them will be for objectives related to the Bosnian full-back’s sporting performance.

At the same time, Benfica must guarantee a percentage of a future sale. For his part, the young 23-year-old full-back is preparing to meet again a coach he knows so well.

Matthias Jaissle was chosen to succeed Eddie Howe at Newcastle. Both have already worked together twice: at Liefering, in 2020/21 and at RB Salzburg, between 2022 and 2023.

Furthermore, this would have been one of the strongest arguments for Newcastle to be able to reach an agreement with Amar Dedic, who was recently at the World Cup 2026, playing for Bosnia and Herzegovina, participating in three of the four games played by the European team.

St. James’ Park will be the new ‘home’ of Dedic, who, interestingly enough, visited Newcastle’s stronghold last season, for the Champions League, as a starter, with Benfica being defeated 0-3.

The right-back, remember, cost a fixed 10 million euros a year ago, coming from the Austrians of RB Salzburg, and Benfica can now triple the investment made, while at the same time giving greater scope to retouch the squad that has already started to compete in this new 2026/27 season.
