THE The reopening of the transfer market, which will take place next January, is just over two months away, but Benfica is already looking beyond this season and the future of the Lisbon team may be preparing.
According to information revealed this Tuesday by the Norwegian television station TV2, Benfica is one of the clubs that has shown the most interest in Gabriel Wesseh, an American talent who plays for Fredrikstad FK, which is currently ranked 8th in the Norwegian League.
Still, the Reds will not be alone in the race for this prodigy. The same source also adds that Barcelona will be the most attentive club and has already made several observations, in addition to the Belgians at Club Brugge.
It should be noted that this Norwegian club has already sold a player to Portuguese football this summer, as Norwegian Eirik Granaas joined defending champions FC Porto.
Gabriel Wesseh headed to Nordic football this summer, coming from North American club Atlanta United and quickly became one of the revelations of the Norwegian championship. With dual nationality – United States and Liberia -, Wesseh is left-footed and plays preferably on the right side of the attack. Still, he can also play not only on the left, but also as a second striker.

With two goals and two assists in nine games played, the 18-year-old is already an under-19 international for the United States of America.
Benfica, moreover, has invested heavily in this Nordic vein in recent years, as evidenced by the signings of Aursnes, Samuel Dahl and Aursnes or Casper Tengstedt.
Gustavo Varela could be back
In another dossier, Benfica can move towards repurchasing the pass from Gustavo Varela, a Portuguese striker who is highlighted in Serie A, with eight goals scored and one assist in seven games played in Italian football at the start of the season.
According to information provided this Tuesday by the Italian journalist Gianluca DiMarzioa specialist in matters related to the transfer market, Benfica is one of the many clubs interested in Gustavo Varela, whose performances have caught the attention of several European clubs.
The same source explains that Benfica maintains the right to match future offers from other clubs. DiMarzio also adds that these offers are now increasingly likely, as other big clubs are showing interest and carrying out surveys, which should increase in the coming weeks. The expert also highlights that there is no buy-back clause, so Benfica will have to match other offers that appear in the near future.
Gustavo Varela’s pass was transferred to Monza last summer in exchange for 2.5 million euros, with bonuses for goals that could increase the value of the deal. Benfica retains 20 percent of a future sale.
