Marco Silva makes ‘mea culpa’: “The team shook and I didn’t help”

Analysis: “A completely fair victory, we were clearly the best team. Four games, four victories. Playing in European competitions, and regardless of the competition we are in, we always have to have the right mindset. Switching from a Monday to a Thursday and immediately understanding what we have to do… The 1st half had good moments from our team, we controlled, we played in the attacking midfield. And sometimes the control is so great that afterwards we lose track of when to control the ball or attack the midfield offensive. We knew that Lech would build like this, with many players in the low zone, rotating the three in midfield, and then it was difficult to find moments to press. But we kept the middle block and created practically nothing. In the 2nd half we had good opportunities, moments of quick attack in which we could have ended the story. It starts to calm down. We make it 2-0 and then we make a mistake. It’s obvious that to go to the free player we have to see where the pressure is, and we have to keep working. And that shook the team a little. Maybe I didn’t help the team with the changes I made. I had to adapt a player and, possibly, we needed to. more stability. We struggled a little, but then we reacted, made it 3-1 and killed the game. It’s not easy to always win in this competition and I’m satisfied.”

Prestianni stands out again: “He’s a great talent, a great player and he’s taking increasingly precise steps to express all his potential. Very satisfied today once again. Schjelderup did the same in the 1st half and Prestianni later came in with the same role. It’s not just the defensive moment, it’s everything he does. He feels that the stadium is with him and he’s in an excellent moment. We’ve been talking about some things that end up happening in the game and that gives him more confidence. It’s about continuing to work the same form.”

What does the mister feel when he is here before the court of Luz? It was widely applauded… “The same as the players feel. In a club of this size the demands are enormous. For us it is very important to feel that they come to play with the team, to support. They need the team to win games. We have made them believe and that is the most important and difficult thing. And then, of course they expect results. When we are in this house, we have to understand that football is like that. But even when we shook, we saw who was pushing the team…”
