Wristiano Ronaldo announced, this Thursday, his decision to withdraw from the national team, confirming the rumors that had already been circulating since he left the last training camp in conflict with coach Jorge Jesus. The 41-year-old Portuguese star said he left with his head held high, saying he had made the decision with his head, but also with his heart. Now, taking into account that it is a goodbye to the corner team, the game against Wales, played on September 24th, represents the last time that CR7 wore the national colors.
In the first game of the JJ era in the national team, Ronaldo started and saw João Félix score the only goal that was worth the victory at the start of the Nations League. In the second half, the captain scored and celebrated with the usual Sii, sending Alvalade into overdrive, but saw the VAR take away the goal.
In the 67th minute, Ronaldo received a substitution order and gave way to Gonçalo Ramos, thus ending a long cycle of 23 years in the Portuguese national team.
Ronaldo still sat on the bench in Norway, but he was incompatible with Jesus and left the team on the eve of the clash against Denmark.
Cristiano Ronaldo, 41 years old, leaves the team after 23 years, accumulating a final balance of 234 games, 146 goals and 45 assists. In between, he won three collective titles: a European Championship (2016) and two Nations Leagues (2019 and 2025).
Even so, the Portuguese Football Federation has already formalized its desire to hold a farewell befitting the career of the most international player in its history.
