FIt was a very controversial afternoon in the Portuguese II League, with two games that had VAR happily throughout their matches. Benfica B received, at Seixal, the Desportivo de Chaves team, in a match that ended with a victory achieved towards the end, while União de Leiria saw AVS visit the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa, with the triumph bringing victory to the Lis club.
The team from the continental west started round nine of the competition with fewer points than their opponent in this match, but they were the ones who started the strongest. The ball entered the AVS goal on two occasions during the first half, but the home team saw both shots canceled by VAR, in the 19th and 41st minutes.
Between these situations, the visitors were among the ‘raindrops’ and were kind enough to score the first goal of the match, with Hiago Santos being the man who broke the ice in Leiria.
The result was even a partial victory for the outsiders at half-time, with União de Leiria making changes at half-time. The conversation in the locker room changed something, even if it was the fact that the home players stayed in line to avoid having their goals disallowed.
This is because, in the 73rd minute, Pablo Fernández did not forgive and even managed to score the equalizer, with the final stretch bringing another moment of celebration in the stands, after Rodrigo Pinho made a mistake on goal and scored an own goal in the 86th minute.
In this way, União de Leiria surpasses AVS, adding 14 points, two more than the Vila das Aves team, placing seventh in the league table.
