THE Controversy is sparked after Jhon Durán’s expulsion against Santa Clara. After a confusion between players that saw the Colombian striker partially involved, this Wednesday ended up allowing referee Cláudio Pereira’s report to become public, adding ‘fuel to the fire’ due to the unusual justification that the Aveiro Football Association judge wrote in it.
According to information provided by the national sports press and confirmed by the Sport at the MinuteCláudio Pereira wrote that the expulsion was caused by “imperceptible words that helped to spread the widespread conflict”.
Benfica also appealed the expulsion to the Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Football Federation, demanding the decriminalization of the player in question, as they consider there was no reason to see the red card.

Marco Silva is still waiting for a decision on Jhon Durán’s call-up
At the launch press conference for Benfica’s match against Gil Vicente, Marco Silva declared that the situation regarding Jhon Durán’s suspension is preventing him from understanding whether or not he can play in the quarter-finals of the League Cup.
“We don’t have any decision. I did the analysis I did based on the feedback I got from the player. I already had access to the report and it only confirmed my statements at the end of the game. Everything I read only made me more certain that absolutely nothing had happened. Fortunately, I believed in the player and that’s my role, I want them to be honest, whether they make a mistake or not make a mistake. We all make mistakes in life. But it only confirmed what I had said. I’m very curious to understand what the decision will be after seeing what I saw and reading what was written. He is called up for tomorrow”, he began by saying in anticipation of the match against Gil Vicente.
“We are talking about a player who saw a totally unfair red at the end of the game. We can talk about other issues during the game, but here it was totally unfair. We are in doubt whether or not it can be used. I understand the issue, it has to do with the timing of the meeting of those who make the decisions. And in this aspect, given that games are scheduled for the middle of the week, it was important that there was a quick decision so that we knew what to count on”, said the coach.
However, the Eagles’ helmsman ended up saying that the management between Benfica’s various teams was called into question due to this delay in deciding on the punishment, preventing Anísio Cabral from playing in the UEFA Youth League.
“This doubt around Durán also does not allow us to make some decisions. Anísio will be with us tomorrow and we will place these players in an important context for the club. It is up to us to manage in the best way, always prioritizing the main team and whoever is with us. If there are no opportunities, there are always ways to give the players competition”, he added.
