Official: Nacional agrees transfer of Alexandre Santos to Petro

Date:

THE Nacional announced today the transfer of coach Alexandre Santos to Petro de Luanda, after a short experience at the club in the Portuguese First Football League, with defeats in the four games played and still no replacement revealed.

Santos, aged 49, will succeed the Portuguese João Pedro Sousa in the role, dismissed from the Angolan team after 10 games in all competitions, leaving the team in second place in the championship, with 14 points, after six rounds.

Hired in September to replace João Gião, who started the season, but ended up being fired after the fourth round, Alexandre Santos lost against Alverca (3-1), Famalicão (4-0) and Rio Ave (3-2), in the championship, having also been eliminated from the Portuguese Cup, against Sanjoanense, from the Portuguese Championship, after losing 1-0, in a third round match.

In a statement, the island emblem also informs that, “in due course, all information regarding the new technical staff that will take command of the professional football team will be released”.

Still without a new coach, Nacional, 16th and second to last in the I League, with four points, will host Sporting de Braga on Sunday, who also made official the departure of Spaniard Carlos Vicens today, after Monday’s defeat against Gil Vicente (2-1), which left the team in eighth place, with 11 points, having confirmed the arrival of Franclim Carvalho.
