Challenge: “First of all, thank the president and the structure for the trust placed in me, my technical team and my work. I return to Portugal 10 years later. After playing for great teams, different championships. As the president said, I was always concerned about being in the top 5 in Europe. And that was due to my concern about my growth. The truth is that I always had in mind to continue in the best championships, facing the best coaches, players, in order to arrive here today better prepared. And the The truth, I confess, is that I think I’m at the right time to be Sporting’s coach. It’s the moment I feel best prepared to face this challenge.”
Kids Club: “I’m a professional, but I can’t help but say that this club has always been special to me. I’ve been a fan since I was a child. I grew up loving Jordão, Manuel Fernandes, then Carlos Xavier, Litos, Mário Jorge, Balakov, Douglas… And obviously that had a huge impact when the president invited me. There are dreams that come true. And my dream came true. I’m at the club of my heart.”
Reason for choice: “Then, one thing that attracted and motivated me a lot is the quality of this young squad. I am extremely motivated to work with quality young people in whom I really believe. I am sure that we will build special things for Sporting all together. I am fully aware that it is an important moment for Sporting. What I can say is that I am extremely committed and motivated to represent this huge club, with a huge history, where our fans reveal a unique passion.”
Objective and word to Rui Borges: “In a different club. Yes, Sporting is a different club. I am aware that I have a task that is extremely motivating. Building a team that plays football that all Sporting fans can be proud of. I am a fan of good football and what I promise is great dedication, a lot of work. Whenever Sporting fans watch our team, they feel proud. And with the awareness that we have always done everything to win. Finally, I would like to leave a word of appreciation and great admiration to Mister Rui Borges and to his work here at Sporting.”
